Busing On the Lookout (B.O.L.T.) is a national effort to engage
America’s Bus and Paratransit Drivers along with all Transit Staff who
encounter the public to be on the lookout for Human Trafficking. Bus
Drivers along with terminal employees and other staff can observe
behaviors that may be indicators of someone being exploited or used
for domestic sex trafficking, or as underage workers. Also, both legal
and illegal persons from other Countries are sometimes taken
advantage of since they have little to nowhere to seek assistance and
are easy targets of traffickers. This workshop will feature a 30-minute
video which explains exactly what transit staff should be looking for and
what steps they can take. Transit staff will learn to be on the lookout
for:
- Passengers who are not allowed to speak for themselves.
- Passengers who are disheveled, agitated, scared, crying.
- Minors traveling alone.
- Minors traveling with an older person they seem to not know.
- Passengers not in possession of tickets, money, or ID
- Passengers waiting for someone to pick them up who they do
not know.
- Signs of branding, or acknowledgement of needing to make a
quota.
- What safe and anonymous steps a Driver or Transit Employee
can take to report a suspicious situation
